Summer Reading Program a Success

August 5, 2015

MercerMayer_Little Critter_EnglishThanks to children, parents, grandparents, caregivers, and basically anyone who visited the library this summer, our 2015 Summer Reading program was a success! This year’s theme was “Read to the Rhythm.” We enjoyed musical performances, a puppet show, magic show, and over 200 little Elsas and Olafs singing their hearts out at our Frozen movie sing along, among many other activities.  Registrations totaled 952 and 2,650 people attended our 51 programs during the 8-week session.  Registrations were up 28% over last year.  We at the library love to see the children’s faces week after week and gush about their accomplishments.  Our silliness and gushing builds a child’s self-esteem and makes him or her feel comfortable visiting the library.  If you want to make a difference in a child’s life, bring him or her to the library!

Every year we are fortunate to have fabulous sponsors for Summer Reading.  The Friends of the Palm Springs Library are to be commended for their contribution of $5,000 for Summer Reading.  US Bank donated an outstanding $2,500 toward our program.  Thank you to ALL our sponsors, big and small.  When you visit contributing merchants be sure to thank them for supporting the Palm Springs Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.

Next summer, I hope that our registrations top 1,000.  We were only 48 shy of that goal this year so it should be a snap next year.  Summer Reading is open to children, teens, and adults and it is completely FREE.  No excuses!  Mark your calendar for next June’s Summer Reading program which has a sports and Summer Olympics theme, “Read for the Win!”  Who knows?  You might just win a prize.

Thank you sponsors!

Thank you sponsors!

Thanks for making 2015 Summer Reading so much fun!

Paws to Read

Summer Reading Program was a time for library lovers to come together and do what we do best, have fun!  On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees and all the employees at the Palm Springs Public Library, I would like to say a heart-felt thank you to everyone who participated as well as the organizations and businesses who helped sponsor our Summer Reading Program.

First of all, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Friends of the Palm Springs Library for their large contribution for Summer Reading Program.  They contributed $5,000 to pay for our grand prizes, three Samsung Galaxy Tablets, as well as free giveaway books, and professional performers.    See below for a full list of sponsors who donated merchandise, admission tickets, or gift cards.
