Well, Well, Welwood Murray Memorial Library

05-06-14 Construction KickOff.4aAfter being closed for too many years to count, the Welwood Murray Memorial Library (WMML,) located at 100 S. Palm Canyon Dr. is on its way to being reopened. With partial funding from Measure J Tax dollars, the $1.3 million project is expected to take six months, with the move-in expected to take one to two months after that. The Library will be a branch of the Palm Springs Public Library, with access to computers, free WiFi, and a collection of magazines and newspapers. No library card will be needed to use the resources at Welwood Murrary Memorial Library. To access subscription-based content such as the library’s databases, downloadable music, eBooks, or magazines, one must obtain a Palm Springs Public Library card from the Main Library at 300 S. Sunrise Way.  Traditional library activities, such as checking out books or DVDs will only happen at the Sunrise location.
Also moving into Welwood Murray Memorial Library will be staff from the Palm Springs Historical Society and the Bureau of Tourism. All of their existing facilities will remain open; this will just be an additional location for them. It is expected that the Palm Springs Historical Society will relocate their archive to WMML, allowing them some breathing room in their tight quarters on the Village Green.
This new location of the Palm Springs Public Library will be a little bit of something for everyone. It will be a place to do historical research with the Palm Springs Historical Society. It will be a place to get tourism recommendations for dinner or an excursion around the area. It will be a place where anyone can come use a computer, charge a mobile device or tablet at our charging table, or just sit and read the newspaper while enjoying a cup of coffee from one of the many nearby coffee shops.
We can’t wait to show you our newly renovated Welwood Murray Memorial Library. Follow the progress on our special WMML Renovation web page.  We will update the web page with pictures of the renovation as it happens. 07-02-14 Construction.b
