Barbara Roberts, Director of Library Services receives check from FOPSL Board Members LeeOna Hostrop, Kathy Brant, Richard Ellis, Barbara Stanford, Mike Thompson and Valerie Virtue.

July 21, 2010 — The Palm Springs Public Library was presented with a check today for $25,000.00 from the Friends of the Palm Springs Public  Library (FOPSL).  The check was presented to the Director of Library Services, Barbara Roberts, by LeeOna Hostrop and other FOPSL Board members. This check was only part of their generous annual gift to the Library.  The Friends also purchased a third self check-out machine with matching cabinetry for all three of the machines and new coin and cash readers to allow library users to pay any fines directly at the self check-out machines.  The new self check-out machine arrived and was installed today. The combined donation totaled over $46,000.

FOPSL, also known as the Friends, is a non-profit organization composed of local enthusiastic library supporters who promote an informed interest in the Library and encourage and administer dues, gifts and bequests to the Library. They sponsor a monthly book club and several fund raising programs and service events, including their annual book sale, to help raise money to help support the Library.

“This is a challenging financial time so these generous gifts are so greatly appreciated, said Barbara Roberts, Director of Library Services, “The third self check-out machine will provide greater efficiency for the public.  The support of the Friends and members of our community is so crucial to the success of the Library in these lean years”.
