On Thursday, July 1st the Palm Springs Public Library will be launching three new online tools to assist our community, all for FREE with your Library card.
HelpNow, from Brainfuse, Inc., is our new Live Homework Help tool. This online tool will put students of all ages and grade levels in touch with a live tutor that will assist the student one-on-one. Together, while online, the student and tutor can use a virtual whiteboard to work through math or science problems and term papers can be uploaded to receive critique comments and grammar suggestions. There are also skill building exercises based on grade level and subjects that allow students to work on improving their skills over the summer or during the school year in areas that they are trying to improve. There is also a testing lab which provides practice tests and study sessions for preparing for national tests like the SAT. This tool also provides continuing learning tools for adults seeking their GED or studying for their citizenship test. Tutors are available in English and Spanish seven days a week from 1:00 – 10:00 P.M., just go to the Library’s web site at http://www.palmspringslibrary.org and click on the HelpNow icon, you will be prompted to enter your Library Card number, all for FREE!
The Library is also pleased to announce that we will also now offer every patron with a library card online access to free expert job coaching through the JobNow program from Brainfuse, Inc. JobNow provides access from the Library’s public computers or from home, to a trained job coach for assistance in your job search process. The JobNow service offers personality assessments for those just beginning their job search as well as resume and cover letter templates and examples, live interview practice, online resources, local job search websites, and more.
And finally, the Library will also be launching the Mango Languages online language-learning system. Mango offers a fast and convenient solution for our community’s increasing language-learning needs. Each online lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex conversational elements within an audio-visual framework that allows the user to draw important connections between pieces of information they have already learned. This tool is FREE and is only available for use outside of the Library, with your library card.
